Hey, beautiful bearded folk!  I am here seeking advice on electric beard trimmers.  My beloved's beard is getting rather shaggy, and he is nearly as lost as I am in regard to which trimmer to get.

His facial hair is of medium coarseness, and he has sideburns and moustache too.  I am not sure what to call the style he keeps, if it can be classified, but he likes to keep the hair off his neck (which it grows down about two inches) and off his cheeks (where it grows sparsely).  He prefers to keep the thickest hair along his jawline, and the moustache just short enough so he doesn't constantly chew on it.

I have done much research on trimmers and other shaving devices, but am lost because each device that seems great has, according to reviews, numerous dealbreaking issues.  Owing to inexperience, neither of us is really able to make an informed choice.  This is why I seek your advice!  I would simply like trimmer recommendations so I might be pointed in the right direction.

Thanks for your time.

PROGRESS

I haven't trimmed (except for shaving my neck) since before Halloween. We'll see how it goes, but I'm not planning on cutting it until after winter is over.

In Defense of Beards...

“We have come to the conclusion that the practice of shaving is alike ridiculous and absurd, and that it violates one of the laws of nature. Now, our beard was not given us for no purpose – that is evident. It was created for some wise purp...ose, and that was to keep the face and throat warm, and thus be conducive to health. Let us look at a few facts. It has been calculated that if one shaves three times a week, it grows twenty times as fast as if he did not shave. Allowing two inches as the annual growth of the beard, it will be seen that a man cuts off forty inches, or more than a yard of hair a year, and the nutriment which supports this, and is thus wasted, might have gone to nourish other parts of the body, and render him a healthy and handsome man! Again, allowing twenty minutes to each shaving operation, three times a week, amounts to one hour a week, – fifty-two hours a year. Supposing a man to shave forty years, we find he has consumed about three months in the simple act of shaving ; and calculating the expense of each operation at the small sum of six cents, we find it has cost him three hundred and sixty dollars. In view of these facts, we cannot but regard the practice of shaving as a decidedly barbarous one, and which ought to be discountenanced by the progressive civilization of the age.”

And my beard lately:

Growing it out more?
I haven't posted since I joined the Peace Corps, but here goes. So, Winter is here in South Africa and I want to grow my beard out again, maybe sort of Sam Beam style. I have let my beard get medium length before, but it got a bit scraggly. I want a work-safe beard that's longish but not scraggly ( long hairs sticking out).. any tips? I thought of using conditioner in my beard, as I do shampoo it regularly. I just gave it a quick trim to keep things even and plan on letting it "do it's thing".

What's the verdict?

Beard trimmer Q...
So up until recently, I've used some of the longest settings on my beard trimmers and been quite happy with the results. But for the past few weeks, I've been too lazy to trim regularly, and I've found that I prefer the longer look. Now, the longest setting on my trimmer will undoubtedly cut it too short for my liking.

Can anyone make any recommendations for a trimmer with longer-than-average settings? Or should I try trimming it myself, either with scissors or with a mini-trimmer?

Cheers!

Beard Pride!

Has anyone here joined The National Beard Registry?  (http://www.nationalbeardregistry.org)

"All beards are beautiful and worthy of registration. But the majestic and magnificent full and aged beard is the ultimate quest of The National Beard Registry. Like a fingerprint, a year or more of full growth on a man's face produces a one-of-a-kind appearance that defies trend, pop culture, and media driven conformity. It is a very natural and beautiful symbol of individualism, and honors the self-expressed essence within each man.

We therefore call for all men - who can and desire to participate, to grow a full beard, with only minor trimming for neck comfort, eating or kissing. We gladly register ALL beards of any length or type. We are also looking for naturally outrageous growth such as the braided Fu Manchu, dreadlock full beard, or long goatees and sideburns etc."

Yo, beardedfolk.
I've had my bread for about four years now.  I think this is almost  the thickest I've let it grow.  I'm aiming for a fuller look, which, now that I think about it, is pretty dumb for the summer.

See, it was much thinner just a few days ago:

So, yeah, HI!

Sides filling in
For some reason the hair in the front of my beard is fuller then the sides of my beard ( I have a full beard). So far I have let it grow and trim the whole thing maybe once a month to keep it looking groomed, but I wish the sides would thicken a bit.

Tips?

well, shoot. i forgot totally about live journal for like the past two or so years. anyways, the only thing i want to do now is share my beard with the good people here. i'm five months in, and hopefully i can make it to a year without getting too annoyed or my girlfriend shaving it off me while i'm sleeping.

Anyways---Collapse )

Beard length in the academic workplace
I work at a college and have found my beard looks better when I keep it medium length. Still, part of me wants to grow it out a little bit more to keep it uniform. It needs to fill in more on the sides:
